Cucalorus

Cucalorus was a very interesting experience and I walked away from it with a new respect for these type of films. Now I did not enjoy them all by the way. The first one I saw was a feature film called"The Strange Ones". That was shown in the Thailan Ballroom on a flat floor with removable seating. The room it self wasn't as impressive as the one I was I was in later. The cinematography of the film was great and so was the sound. I wasn't emotionally invested in the characters of this story due to a lack of back story. Even when something tragic happened to one of them I found myself not caring because there was nothing for me to care about. However, the twist at the end of that made me go back and give the character a second chance. I'm usually not a fan of sitting through an entire movie with payoff coming at the end. For this one it worked sort of. At last it gave me singe closure to that character.

The second film I saw was actually a collection of short films called "Covered Wagon Shorts". Those were excellent films and even featured "Baby Oil", the one Andre was DP and editor on. These films were played in the main hall of Thalian. This, while smaller reminded me of the Orpheum Theater in Omaha. The seating was elevates and it had the theater feel complete with crown molding. Even though I'm a little biased toward Andre's film is have to say my favorite film was the very first one I saw. It was about a single mother with a hyper active son. The mom suspects that his elementary school teacher us abusing him while he us there and sets out to prove it. This film seems to give you a window into a single mothers life as she loses her temper, struggles to work and make it on time for things, and taking care of her son. Unlike the other film you care about these characters right away and you find yourself wanting to know what is going on and what us happening between the teacher and her son.

Overall my experience with Cucalorus was excellent. I look forward to submitting a film to it in the future.
